When I knew I was pregnant with twins I spent a long time thinking about the bond they would have with each other. So far the mythical twin bond between them seems very like any other siblings  – an equal mixture of  fun, fighting and vying for our attention. Earlier, until the age of about one, they would studiously avoid one another and as younger babies they refused even to make eye contact. Lately Eve has wanted to hold Leah’s hand whenever she’s felt insecure or upset but that’s about it as far as any special bond has gone. Then last night when I went to say a final goodnight, Leah had carefully placed two of Eve’s current favourite books on her pillow and in this simple gesture she communicated a tenderness and care that I want to capture.
