Archeology

Like discovering a stash of love letters belonging to an elderly relative, our house has revealed a history. A meter cupboard was removed this week to make way for a new door and frame and these six different wallpapers dating from the 1890’s to the 1970’s were waiting for me when I arrived home.  That’s ninety years of domestic history, ranging from the Victorian pink and brown speckle, followed by an Edwardian flower design, it’s art nouveau lines just visible, then a 1920’s/1930’s  pastel stripe, a 50’s landscape complete with what I think were pelicans and finally a 70’s bold brown floral, making me nostalgic for my first memories of home.
