Only two weekends of Summer left and still on our August to do list, a swim in Brockwell Lido. We woke up this morning and decided today was the day despite the cloudy sky and goosepimpling breeze. I’m so glad we did because Eve and Leah were ecstatic when they saw the water. Rolling out our towels I did wonder why the majority of swimmers were wearing wet suits………….
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. After two lengths it was just about bearable provided I didn’t stop moving.
We coaxed Eve and Leah into the pool but couldn’t get them to let go of us and swim. Never mind, they had a great time and the Lido will be there for all of the summers of their growing up. Swinging on the railings and daring each other to dip a foot in the water was still tremendous fun.
We are reading Waterlog for our book group next month and both really enjoying it. I skipped ahead to the pages on Lido swimming and tried to imagine what it would be like to crack the ice in winter and swim across the Lido as Roger Deakin describes. I can’t ever see that being on our January to do list.
